AASLD/ILTS Transplant Course: Liver Transplantation – State of the Science
|

Friday, October 29
Course Directors: Michael R. Charlton, MD; Pierre A. Clavien, MD, PhD and Pere Gines, MD

Leading clinicians from around the world will present the most recent clinical and scientific advances affecting the field of liver transplantation. They will focus on three areas:

  • Management advances in hepatobiliary malignancies, particularly hepatocellular carcinoma and cholangiocarcinoma

  • Infectious and donor transmitted diseases, including developments in hepatitis B and C, and donor transmission of West Nile and H1N1

  • Emerging issues, including advances in immunosuppression and approaches to pre- and post-transplant metabolic complications and renal insufficiency

Goals and Objectives:

  • Describe how recent knowledge from clinical investigation can be translated into optimal approaches to the management of hepatobiliary malignancies before and after liver transplantation

  • Explain how to apply new developments in the strategies for the treatment of hepatitis B and C to the transplant arena

  • Discuss the impact of, and management for, donor-transmitted infectious diseases

  • Explain the implications of advances in allocation strategies for high-risk donor organs, immunosuppression, and approaches to pre- and post-transplant metabolic complications and renal insufficiency
