AASLD's 70th Anniversary — Reflections

In 2020, the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases (AASLD) hit a huge milestone: its 70th anniversary. Officially, AASLD was incorporated March 23, 1950.

Over the last 70 years, the field of hepatology has changed. Certain liver diseases have been identified. Liver transplantation has become a reality. And there is now a cure for Hepatitis C.

From its humble beginnings as a small group of individuals who met in smoke-filled rooms in Chicago hotels to discuss liver disease, AASLD has now grown into the leading organization of scientists and health care professionals committed to preventing and curing liver disease. AASLD currently boasts a membership of more than 6,600 people from the US and around the world, and from across the health care spectrum.

Looking Back / Looking Forward

To help celebrate AASLD's platinum anniversary, we asked several long-time members to share their thoughts on AASLD's beginning, and where they see AASLD heading.
