Julie K. Heimbach, MD is the Surgical Director of Liver Transplantation at the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and is a Professor of Surgery. She received her undergraduate degree from Carleton College and MD degree from the University of Minnesota, following which she received her training in General Surgery at the University of Colorado and Fellowship in Transplantation Surgery at Mayo Clinic. She has dedicated a significant amount of time to UNOS/OPTN, having served 2 prior terms on the Membership and Professional Standards Committee as well as 2 prior terms on the Liver Intestine Committee. She is currently serving on the Board of Directors of UNOS/OPTN, and is the vice-chair of the Liver-Intestine Committee of UNOS/OPTN. Dr. Heimbach is an active member of the AASLD (practice guidelines committee, nominating committee and education committee), ASTS (communications committee, vanguard committee), and ILTS (meeting planning committee). She is currently serving as an Associate Editor for the American Journal of Transplantation and has previously served as an associate editor of Liver Transplantation. Dr. Heimbach has co-authored approximately 95 publications and has mentored multiple research and clinical fellows. Her clinical and research interests include liver transplantation for hepatobiliary malignancies, living donor transplantation, and obesity in liver transplantation..
