The application is now available for the 2021 EASL/AASLD Masterclass, scheduled for December 10–12 in the United States. Applications are due June 15.

Nataliya Razumilava, MD, who attended the 2017 Masterclass in Paris, said aspiring academic leaders should not miss this opportunity.

“It was an absolutely inspirational experience,” she said. “AASLD and EASL designed an exceptional program focused on leadership, coaching, and managerial skills, and provided a unique opportunity to meet leaders in the field.”

Selected participants will attend a two-day intensive training session with a curriculum designed for future leaders in academic hepatology. This year’s program, hosted by AASLD, will consist of academic lectures, interactive break-out sessions, individual meetings with tutors, abstract presentations, a poster session, and social events to give early-stage investigators (MD, PhD, or MD/PhD, or equivalent) the opportunity to network with world leaders in hepatology.

“You have an opportunity to hear the collective experience of senior faculty and peers all at the same place. The informal setting provides an environment that is both open and interactive,” said Dr. Razumilava. “This was an intensive two-day program which masterfully combined scientific and not-scientific sessions. I particularly enjoyed the highly stimulating case discussions as well as practical advice on how to run your lab and become an effective collaborator.”

AASLD will provide complimentary registration and accommodation expenses for all 2021 Masterclass participants, as well as travel expenses for up to 15 early career investigators based in North America who are full members of AASLD. EASL will provide travel expenses for 15 early career investigators from within its membership to attend.

The 2021 Masterclass is scheduled to be held in-person. As healthcare professionals and scientists learn more about the evolution of the COVID-19 virus and the safety of travel and gathering, plans for the Masterclass are subject to change, including but not limited to the scheduled dates and location. AASLD and EASL will provide up-to-date information on websites and via email.

In addition to meeting leaders in the field, Dr. Razumilava said the Masterclass provided an opportunity to meet peer physicians and researchers.

Applicants must meet all eligibility criteria, adhere to all application instructions, and submit by 11:59 pm EDT on June 15. Applications received after the deadline will not be reviewed. Selection notifications for this opportunity will be sent no later than August 31.

Members of EASL interested in applying to the 2021 Masterclass should visit EASL’s Masterclass webpage.
