Learn moreSupporting Universal Hepatitis B Birth-Dose Vaccination
As the leading organization representing hepatology clinicians and researchers, AASLD is committed to advancing evidence-based policies that protect liver health. Vaccination against hepatitis B at birth is one of the most effective tools we have to prevent lifelong infection and reduce liver disease.
The CDC’s universal hepatitis B birth-dose recommendation is a proven public health success. Since its adoption in 1991, infant hepatitis B infections in the U.S. have declined by 95%, and more than 90,000 deaths have been prevented, ranking this vaccine among the most impactful childhood immunizations. A recent study also found that hepatitis B vaccination has prevented over 6 million infections and nearly 1 million hospitalizations in less than 30 years. The impact is clear.
