Amar Deep, Ph D
Biography
Dr. Amar Deep is a medical researcher with extensive experience in clinical and laboratory-based research, particularly in hepatology and viral hepatitis, with a focus on hepatitis B virus (HBV), hepatitis C virus (HCV), and liver cirrhosis. His doctoral research, titled "Hepatitis C Related Liver Cirrhosis—A Comprehensive Study," explored the epidemiology, risk factors, and metabolic alterations associated with the progression of chronic hepatitis C to liver cirrhosis. His findings included a prevalence of HCV infection of 0.99%, genotype 3 as the predominant genotype, and distinct gender-specific risk factors for infection. He also investigated serum metabolomic profiles and identified a potential six-metabolite panel associated with disease progression, contributing to a better understanding of metabolic changes in HCV-related liver disease.A significant milestone in Dr. Deep's research career is his contribution to a multicentre randomised controlled trial published in The Lancet in 2026. The study, titled "8 weeks versus 12 weeks of sofosbuvir-velpatasvir for treatment-naive, non-cirrhotic, chronic hepatitis C (RESOLVE)," evaluated the efficacy of an abbreviated eight-week treatment regimen compared with the standard 12-week regimen in patients with chronic hepatitis C. This publication highlights his involvement in high-impact clinical research aimed at optimising direct-acting antiviral treatment strategies and advancing evidence-based care for patients with HCV infection.Dr. Deep has also contributed to several clinical and translational research projects involving viral hepatitis, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, and antiviral therapy. His broader research interests include liver disease progression, metabolomics, biomarker discovery, and the evaluation of diagnostic and therapeutic strategies in hepatology. He has authored and co-authored peer-reviewed research articles, reviews, and book chapters published in journals including The Lancet, Journal of Molecular Recognition, Journal of Clinical and Experimental Hepatology, and Cureus. He has presented his research at national and international scientific conferences, including the European Association for the Study of the Liver (EASL) Congress. His technical expertise encompasses peripheral blood mononuclear cell (PBMC) isolation, cell culture, molecular biology techniques, PCR and quantitative real-time PCR, ELISA, hematological and biochemical investigations, and metabolomic analysis. Through his multidisciplinary research experience, Dr. Deep aims to advance understanding of liver disease mechanisms and contribute to the development of improved diagnostic biomarkers and evidence-based strategies for the management of viral hepatitis and associated liver diseases.
