Amir Hossein Gougol, MD

Amir Gougol is a gastroenterologist and transplant hepatologist currently practicing as clinical assistant professor at Stanford University. Amir has received his medical education at Tehran University in Iran. He pursued his internal medicine training and a gastroenterology fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He was also trained in Transplant Hepatology at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). He has a particular clinical interest in implementation of point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) in hepatology care. He has organized the first POCUS training and led implementation of this clinical tool into practice at Stanford University. He is also interested in management of patients with alcohol-related liver disease and metabolic dysfunction-associated liver dysfunction (MASLD). He is involved in multiple research projects in the treatment of patients with both alcohol-related and metabolic dysfunction liver dysfunction (Met-ALD), resulting in several manuscripts and presentations at national meetings.
