Biography
Andrew Talal, MD, MPH is a physician-scientist with more than 20 years' experience in treating hepatitis C virus (HCV), especially among substance users. He is currently Professor of Medicine at SUNY, University at Buffalo where the results of a stepped wedge randomized controlled trial of facilitated telemedicine for HCV treatment integrated into opioid treatment programs resulted in a 3-fold improvement in HCV cure compared to offsite referral. Dr. Talal was also appointed by the New York Governor to a task force to develop a statewide HCV elimination plan and he also serves on the NYS HCV Guidelines committee. He also has active funding from the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) to study approaches to integrate large-language models into clinical care, and he is a practicing hepatologist.
