Biography

Cara Mack, MD is a pediatric transplant hepatologist who joined the Medical College of Wisconsin (WI) and Children's WI in 2022 as Professor of Pediatrics and Division Chief for Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology & Nutrition. Prior to this, Cara was faculty and Director of the Pediatric GI Fellowship Training Program and Medical Director of the Pediatric Liver Center at University of Colorado, Children's Hospital CO (2002-2022). She completed her undergraduate degree in Molecular Biology at the University of WI- Madison, pediatric residency and chief residency at University of Chicago and Pediatric GI, Hepatology & Nutrition fellowship at Northwestern University, Lurie Children's Hospital. Cara's NIH-funded research focuses on immune-mediated mechanisms of liver injury, with a vested interest in understanding the role of the immune system in the pathogenesis of biliary atresia. She is also leading a national network observational study on pediatric primary sclerosing cholangitis outcomes. Cara has published over 120 original articles, review articles and book chapters related to pediatric liver diseases. At the national level, she has chaired numerous hepatology-related committees and has given ~50 national/ international invited speaker presentations.
