Dr. Christina Awad is a gastroenterologist, Medical Director of Hepatology, and Faculty Director for AI and Innovation at UT Health San Antonio. Her clinical, educational, and research efforts focus on advancing artificial intelligence (AI) literacy among healthcare professionals, with the goal of equipping clinicians to safely, effectively, and responsibly integrate AI into clinical practice amid rapidly evolving technologies.Dr. Awad is board-certified in Internal Medicine, Gastroenterology, and Obesity Medicine, and has completed multiple advanced certifications in AI in healthcare from leading institutions. She combines expertise in clinical medicine with practical AI implementation and education to promote thoughtful, evidence-based adoption of emerging technologies in healthcare.In addition to her work in AI, Dr. Awad has a strong clinical and research interest in metabolic dysfunction–associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD/MASH), obesity medicine, and liver disease. Her current research focuses on weight management therapies, including anti-obesity medications, and their impact on MASH outcomes and treatment strategies.
