Biography

Professor Jia-Horng Kao MD, PhD, FAASLD is a distinguished clinician-scientist specializing in viral hepatitis and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). He is currently Lifetime National Chair Professor at Taiwan's Ministry of Education and NTU Chair Professor at the Graduate Institute of Clinical Medicine, National Taiwan University (NTU) College of Medicine. He also serves as President of the Gastroenterological Society of Taiwan (GEST) and ACT-LD. Professor Kao received his MD from NTU in 1987 and PhD in 1994. With over three decades of experience, his research has advanced understanding of the prevention, molecular virology, pathogenesis, and treatment of MASLD, chronic viral hepatitis and HCC. He has published more than 850 peer-reviewed articles, numerous book chapters, and monographs, achieving a high citation impact and h-index. His contributions have been recognized by many prestigious awards, including the National Chair Professorship, APDW Okuda Award, and APASL Okuda-Omata Distinguished Achievement Award. He is Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of the Formosan Medical Association and holds leadership roles in TASL and APASL, reflecting his strong national and international standing.
