Biography
I am a paediatric Hepatologist and Gastroenterologist working in Bergamo, Italy. My current position is Director of Child Health and of the Paediatric Liver, GI and Transplantation Unit of the Hospital Papa Giovanni XXIII of Bergamo, and Associate Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Milano Bicocca, Milan. I trained as a Paediatrician at the University of Padua and as a Paediatric Hepatologist at King's College Hospital, London. I worked as Consultant Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist as well as Paediatric Intensivist, specializing in organ failure and transplantation. My main fields of interest are cholestatic disease, genetic disease, liver failure, liver transplantation and liver-directed gene therapy.I contributed to the field of paediatric hepatology with publications, scientific presentation and invited lectures, and I am the editor of a textbook of paediatric hepatology and liver transplantation. Member of the Council of the European Society for Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition (ESPGHAN) as Education Secretary (2011-2014) and Treasurer (2022-2025) and member of the Education Committee of the UEG (2011-2014). I served the Editorial Board of Journal of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition (Senior Associate Editor), Liver Transplantation (Associate Editor), Journal of Hepatology (Associate Editor), and from July 2026 for Hepatology (Senior Associate Editor).
