Biography

Dr. De Giorgi received his PhD in Medical Sciences from the Medical University of Gdansk in Poland, in partnership with the University of Milano-Bicocca in Italy. He performed his postdoctoral studies in lipid metabolism and gene therapy at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, where he is currently an Assistant Professor. Dr. De Giorgi research is focused on developing liver-directed gene therapy strategies for treating inherited metabolic disorders. These are severe genetic disorders of the metabolism that affect multiple organs and have limited therapeutic options. Current projects aim at testing the therapeutic potential of somatic genome editing in the liver as treatment for these disorders. The final goal is to convert the liver into a "biofactory" for the production and secretion of therapeutic proteins.
