Marie M Budev, DO, MPH
Biography
Dr. Marie Budev is currently the Medical Director of the Cleveland Clinic Lung Transplant and Heart - Lung Transplant Program. Dr. Budev completed her residency and chief residency at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation and went on to subspecialize in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at the Cleveland Clinic. Dr. Budev completed her master's in public health with a focus on study design during her time as Chief Resident and Woman's Health Fellow. Dr. Budev joined the Pulmonary/ Critical Care staff of the Cleveland Clinic in 2005. She specializes in the treatment of adult patients with end stage lung disease and lung and heart lung and liver lung transplantation. Dr Budev's areas of interest include the impact of telomere length (long and short) on lung transplant outcomes, the assessment of frailty in patients bridged to transplant with mechanical ventilation and/or ECMO, and pre- operative, peri-operative desensitization and post-transplant desensitization. Dr. Budev currently serving as the primary investigator on several multi-center clinical trials focusing on various aspects of chronic lung allograft dysfunction (CLAD) including CTOT 45 (Clinical Trials in Organ Transplantation), CTOT 47. Dr. Budev has authored and co-authored more than 200 abstract and original articles and several book chapters focusing on various issues in lung transplantation. She currently serves as the Organ Procurement Transplant Network (OPTN)/ United Network of Organ Sharing (UNOS) Ex- Officio of the Lung Committee and presently is serving as the Chair of OPTN/UNOS Lung Review Board. She presently also serves on the American Society of Transplantation Conflict of Interest Committee and Chair 2026 AST Medical Director's Forum. Dr Budev is involved in numerous professional and scientific societies, including the International Society for Heart Lung Transplant (ISHLT), Past Chair of the American College of Chest Physicians (ACCP) Transplant Network and The American Thoracic Society (ATS).
