Biography

Dr. Jones, a Hepatologist and Associate Professor of Clinical Medicine, trained at the University of North Carolina for Gastroenterology and Transplant Hepatology. She has been a member of the University of Miami faculty since 2015 and currently serves as the Associate Chief of Clinical Affairs for the Hepatology Section. She takes a multi-pronged approach to researching disparities in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and chronic liver disease, including community-based participatory research. Dr. Jones established a prospective database and biorepository of diverse patients with chronic liver disease, cirrhosis, and HCC, which has supported various studies aimed at understanding the needs and perspectives of patients and has enrolled over 1400 participants since 2018. Current NIH-funded research will investigate environmental and genetic determinants of risk and survival in diverse HCC patients. Dr. Jones is also investigating how navigation impacts treatment characteristics and willingness of vulnerable populations to engage in research. She participates in multiple NIH-funded multicenter studies. Dr. Jones is an active member of several national and international liver-disease focused associations. She is currently serving on the Global Outreach and Engagement Committee for the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases
