Biography

Pranoti Mandrekar, PhD, Professor and Associate Vice-Chair of Faculty Development, Dept of Medicine in the Division of Gastroenterology and Program director, Translational Science Program, Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences and Director, Junior Faculty Development Program UMass Chan Medical School (UMCMS). Dr. Mandrekar's research focuses on investigating the mechanisms of alcohol-mediated liver disease, specifically inflammation and fibrosis. Her lab has focused on understanding signaling mechanisms in innate immune cells and hepatic stellate cells, stress mediated proteostasis, immune and metabolic interactions, important in liver injury. Her work targets proteostasis pathways including stress-mediated heat-shock proteins and molecular chaperones in liver inflammation and metabolism as well as liver fibrosis. Dr. Mandrekar has received accolades including UMCMS Outstanding Mentoring Award, UMCMS Award for Excellence in Graduate Curriculum Development, Chancellor's Award for Advancing Institutional Excellence in Diversity and invited globally to serve on advisory boards and review committees. Dr. Mandrekar has received funding from National Institute of Health and Department of Defense since 2004, invited to present her work at national and international conferences, and published her work in high impact journals.
