Redefining Prevention and Management of Portal Hypertension Complications

Description

The treatment landscape for portal hypertension complications continues to expand beyond traditional therapies. Advances in pharmacologic management, refinements in TIPS technology, and novel approaches to ascites, encephalopathy, and decompensation prevention are reshaping patient care. This session will present cutting-edge clinical trials evaluating established and emerging therapies and examine how disease-modifying interventions may alter the natural history of cirrhosis.

Objectives

  • Evaluate emerging pharmacologic therapies, including SGLT-2 inhibitors, statins, and direct oral anticoagulants, for preventing decompensation and improving outcomes in patients with cirrhosis
  • Assess advances in procedural management of portal hypertension complications, including next-generation TIPS technologies and novel approaches to preventing gastric variceal rebleeding
  • Interpret contemporary risk prediction models, including ANTICIPATE-NASH, to identify patients at highest risk for variceal development and portal hypertension progression
