Renumathy Dhanasekaran, MD, PhD

Biography

Dr. Dhanasekaran is a physician scientist specializing in liver cancer research and patient care. Dr. Dhanasekaran completed her medical school training in India, and pursued her Internal Medicine residency at the University of Florida, Gainesville followed by Gastroenterology fellowship at Mayo Clinic, Rochester and Transplant Hepatology fellowship and PhD in Cancer Biology at Stanford University. Her clinical practice is mainly focused on liver cancer and she runs a clinic specifically for patients with liver masses. At Stanford, Dr. Dhanasekaran established her independent research career, focusing on immunobiology of liver cancer. Her lab employs mouse models and human liver tissue to enhance our understanding of HCC and develop novel biomarkers and molecular-targeted therapies. Dr. Dhanasekaran is widely published and funded by organizations like the NIH, ACG, AASLD, Cancer League, Doris Duke, and others. She is a recipient of the Laure Aurelian Research Endowment award and a graduate of the AGA Future Leader program. Her long-term goal is to improve clinical outcomes for patients with liver cancer through personalized care and translational research.
