Biography
Thanh Kim, MD, is a practicing gastroenterologist and physician-epidemiologist from Viet Nam whose work focuses on improving the prevention, detection, and management of chronic liver disease, particularly hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). He practices gastroenterology at An Binh Hospital and serves as a faculty member at Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine in Ho Chi Minh City, where his work spans clinical care, medical education, and research.His research lies at the intersection of clinical epidemiology, implementation science, and liver disease. He is particularly interested in translating evidence-based interventions into routine healthcare settings and improving access to effective care for populations with a high burden of viral hepatitis. His recent work has focused on developing and evaluating multicomponent strategies to improve HBV screening, linkage to care, and the identification of patients at risk for liver-related complications in Viet Nam.Beyond HBV care, he is developing a broader research program in HCC prevention and early detection, integrating epidemiological, clinical, and biomarker data to improve risk prediction and surveillance. He is also committed to strengthening research capacity in Viet Nam through teaching epidemiology and evidence-based medicine to medical and public health trainees.His long-term goal is to become an independent clinician-scientist and epidemiologist leading translational and implementation research that bridges scientific evidence and real-world healthcare delivery, with a particular focus on improving liver health in Viet Nam and other resource-constrained settings.
