Biography

Dr. Thomas Reiberger is a Professor of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at the Medical University of Vienna and holds medical boards for Internal Medicine, Gastroenterology/Hepatology and ICU. He leads the advanced chronic liver disease (ACLD) program at the Vienna General Hospital, including outpatient clinics for patients with liver cirrhosis, portal hypertension, and for pre-post liver transplantation care. As physician scientist he performs invasive transjugular procedures, endoscopic hepatobiliary interventions and engages in intensive care management of GI/Liver patients. His main research interest include viral hepatitis, complications of cirrhosis and portal hypertension, development of diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers, ultrasound-imaging including elastography and therapeutic trials. He is the Director of the Christian-Doppler Laboratory on Portal Hypertension and Liver Fibrosis and the head of the clinical research group (CRG) MOTION (Mechanism in Portal Hypertension). He is adjunct PI at the Center of Molecular Medicine (CeMM) of the Austrian Adacemy of Science and coordinator of the European Reference Network (ERN) RARE-LIVER center at the Vienna General Hospital.
