Biography

Armen Petrosyan, MD, PhD, is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC). His research focuses on the cellular and molecular mechanisms of alcohol-associated liver disease (ALD), particularly how chronic alcohol exposure disrupts endoplasmic reticulum–Golgi homeostasis and contributes to hepatic inflammation and injury. His laboratory investigates alcohol-induced ER stress, Golgi dysfunction, autophagy, and aberrant glycosylation, with a particular interest in how these processes alter Kupffer cell–hepatocyte communication and inflammatory cytokine signaling. His long-term goal is to identify mechanisms of cellular organelle dysfunction that drive ALD progression and translate these discoveries into new therapeutic strategies.
