He serves as GI Lead for VISN 8, encompassing seven VA medical centers across Florida and Puerto Rico.Dr. John's research focuses on hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) biomarkers and surveillance, portal hypertension, and metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD). His work is supported by federal funding including VA Merit Awards.Dr. John has authored over 120 peer-reviewed publications in journals including Nature, Gastroenterology, JAMA Internal Medicine, Hepatology, and Gut. He has received multiple Presidential Plenary designations at the AASLD Liver Meeting and DDW. He serves on the Editorial Board of Hepatology and serves on national committees of AASLD and AGA.
