Stump the Hepatologist

Description

The "Stump the Hepatologist" session demonstrates the art behind the science of working through the differential diagnosis for cases. Through live interactions with the case presenters, hepatology experts work through interesting and challenging cases and speak aloud about their thought process as the case unfolds. During the process, participants witness how experts in the field, using their knowledge base, break down and narrow their differential diagnosis to solve a case. Two interesting and challenging cases chosen by the program chairs are presented to hepatology experts. The moderators work to prompt the experts throughout each case to discuss differential diagnoses, work-up, and rationale. Clinical history and labs are presented first followed by more diagnostic tests to allow panelists to arrive at the final diagnosis. Each case is followed by a synopsis and summary/review of the literature of the diagnosis by the case presenter.
