Samar H Ibrahim, MBCHB, FAASLD

Dr. Ibrahim is a Professor of Pediatrics and Physiology; she is a pediatric transplant hepatologist and a physician scientist. Samar is the Principal Investigator of the NIH-funded lipotoxicity and liver inflammation laboratory at Mayo Clinic. She studies mechanisms of liver injury and inflammation in metabolic dysfunction associated steatohepatitis (MASH) with the goal to identify novel biomarkers and mechanism-based therapeutic targets. Her recent work examined the pathogenic role of liver sinusoidal cells (LSEC) endotheliopathy in MASH and identified vascular adhesion molecule 1 (VCAM1) as a potential novel therapeutic target in MASH. Dr. Ibrahim is the director of the Pilot and Feasibility program at the Digestive Disease Center at Mayo Clinic. She serves on NIH study sections, as well as a reviewer for international funding agencies. Dr. Ibrahim has mentored numerous medical students, residents, postdoctoral fellows and young faculties. She is an associate Editor of "Hepatology", an elected member of the American Society for clinical investigation (ASCI), the chair of the AASLD Pediatric SIG, and the chair of the AASLD basic science committee. Dr. Ibrahim is the Medical Director of the Pediatric Liver Transplant Program at Mayo clinic and is interested in studying immune dysregulation in acute liver failure.
