Recognized the world over for pioneering liver transplantation and live donor liver transplant (LDLT) in India, and putting India on the global liver transplant map
Performed the first successful liver transplant in India on Nov 6, 1998 (adult DDLT)
Performed the country's first successful pediatric liver Transplant, Nov 15, 1998
Established three major LT centers at Apollo Hospital (1998-2,001), SGRH (2001-2010), and Medanta-The Medicity (2010-present)
Performed the highest - > 4500 liver transplants in India including over 500 pediatric transplants: with > 95% success.
Credited with most of the firsts in living donor liver transplant in India - first left lobe, right lobe, dual lobe, swap, simultaneous liver and kidney transplants, ABO-incompatible, domino transplant, smallest (2kg) & oldest recipient (79 y) etc.
