Traveling to Washington, D.C.
Changes in U.S. immigration policy enforcement. Here are some tips to keep in mind from BCD Travel:
- Ensure your passport is valid for at least six months beyond your intended stay.
- Obtain the correct U.S. visa or ESTA, verifying that all personal information is accurate. Visa applicants must select either male or female on their application; nonbinary travelers should consult their local U.S. embassy for guidance.
- Stay informed on current travel policies and bans related to health, security, or other factors.
- Be prepared to clearly answer questions from U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers about your visa status, entry eligibility, and purpose of your visit. You may request an interpreter if needed.
- In addition to your travel documents (with photocopies stored separately in case of loss), bring hard copies of your flight itinerary, hotel booking, and event registration.
- Add phone numbers for your country’s consulate, your employer’s passport/visa service or immigration attorney, a family member, and your employer's offline emergency contact information to your phone. (Include a hard copy of this information in your hand luggage as well.)
- Prepare electronic devices for inspection; review what is visible during a basic inspection and consider offloading content that may require more scrutiny.
- Pack medications and necessities in your carry-on bag; keep prescriptions in the original package with your name on it and a doctor’s note.
