Biography

Bettina Hansen, PhD, is Professor of Clinical Biostatistics at Erasmus MC, the Netherlands, and at the University of Toronto, Canada. She is Program Director of the MSc Health Sciences Research Program at Erasmus MC. She studied statistics at the Institute of Mathematical Statistics, University of Copenhagen, Denmark, and earned her PhD on treatment effects in chronic hepatitis B and C from the Department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Erasmus MC.

Her research targets are chronic hepatitis, autoimmune liver diseases, and rare pediatric liver diseases. She employs advanced statistical methods to improve understanding and treatment of these conditions. Her aims are to understand progression of disease and facilitate drug discovery. Dr. Hansen founded several real-world data networks, including the Global PBC Study Group, NAPPED, and GALA Study Group. She is engaged with the Forum of Collaborative Research, IPSC Study Group and the European Reference Network for Rare Diseases, and she serves as a scientific advisor for PSC Partners and the PBC Foundation.
