Cara Mack, MD is a pediatric transplant hepatologist who joined the Medical College of Wisconsin (WI) and Children's WI in 2022 as Professor of Pediatrics and Division Chief for Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology & Nutrition. Prior to this, Cara was faculty and Director of the GI Fellowship Training Program and Medical Director of the Liver Center at University of Colorado, Children's Hospital CO (2002-2022). She completed her undergraduate degree in Molecular Biology at the University of WI- Madison, pediatric residency and chief residency at University of Chicago and Pediatric GI, Hepatology & Nutrition fellowship at Northwestern University, Lurie Children's Hospital. Cara's NIH-funded basic science research focuses on the immune-mediated mechanisms of bile duct injury, with a focus on the role of the immune system in the pathogenesis of biliary atresia. Cara has published over 100 original articles, review articles and book chapters related to pediatric liver diseases. At the national level, she has chaired numerous committees within the American Association for the Study of Liver Disease and has given ~50 national/ international invited speaker presentations.
