Biography

Dr. Kwon finished his medical education, residency training in general surgery, and fellowship in liver transplantation and hepato-pancreato-biliary surgical oncology in Korea where he started a laparoscopic liver program in 2008 and then a laparoscopic living donor program in 2013 and developed it to one of the largest MIS living donor programs in the world. He moved to the US in 2017, first to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, and then to the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio in 2018 where he is the Director of Minimally Invasive Liver Surgery and Head of HPB Surgery. He successfully launched a laparoscopic donor program in 2019 which has become one of the largest MIS living donor programs in the US. He is involved in multiple outreach programs, both in Asia and the Americas, to help establish living donor liver transplant and/or laparoscopic liver resection programs.
