Dr. Olson attended medical school at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska followed by residency at the University of Minnesota in the Centers for Disease Control Global Health Track. After residency he then completed advanced fellowships in Critical Care Medicine and Transplant Hepatology at Mayo Clinic in Rochester MN. Previously, he was an Associate Professor of Medicine and Surgery at the University of Kansas before returning to Mayo Clinic in 2023. Dr. Olson's clinical and research interests are related to management of both acute and acute-on-chronic liver failure in the ICU, with additional interests in extracorporeal liver support devices. He continues to work internationally in efforts to improve liver care in resource limited settings.
