Marc Ghany, MD, MHSc, FAASLD is a Senior Investigator and Chief of the Clinical Hepatology Research Section, Liver Diseases Branch, National Institutes of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases, National Institutes of Health (NIH).
Dr. Ghany's research interests focus on the natural history, treatment and mechanisms of treatment response in chronic hepatitis B and C. He is an internationally recognized leader in the hepatitis B and C field. He served as co-chair of the AASLD practice guideline on diagnosis, management, and treatment of hepatitis C introducing simplified therapy during his tenure to expand the number of providers. He also served as co-chair of the AASLD practice guideline on management of Hepatitis B. He has served as an advisor for the CDC, NASEM and FDA. Dr. Ghany served as an Associate Editor of Hepatology from 2016-2021. He has published over 240 original peer-reviewed papers and book chapters. His H-index is 82 (Scopus); 80 (Google Scholar) and he has been cited over 31,700 times (Google Scholar). He has mentored over 30 students and Hepatology Fellows, many of whom have taken leadership positions in the field of hepatology.
