Matteo specialized in Internal Medicine at Florence Medical University in 2011. He worked as consultant Physician in Internal, acute and emergency medicine. He trained in Clinical Ultrasound. During his internship he developed a specific interest in hepatology and non invasive assessment of liver disease. From 2013 to 2017 he worked at the Institute for Liver and Digestive Health, University College of London - Royal Free Hospital where he established his expertise and gained experience in interventional ultrasound. He is founder, director and organizer of the UCL International Hepatology Ultrasound Course at the Royal Free Hospital. In summer 2017 he moved back to Italy where he works as Consultant Physician in Internal Medicine and Clinical Ultrasound in the High Complexity Unit at the Hospital of San Giuseppe, Empoli where he is also lead of the metabolic and liver disease outpatient clinic. He maintains an academic collaboration with University College of London where he is Honorary Associate Professor for the Division of Medicine, Institute for Liver and Digestive Health. He is editor and author of the book "Liver Ultrasound: from Basics to Advanced Applications". Over the last years he has lectured in many countries around the world at Euroson, WFUMB, EASL, COLDA, UEG and DDW. He is Honorary Member of the European Association for the Development of Clinical Ultrasonography in Ambulatory Healthcare - EADUS/EUVEKUS.
He is actively involved in tutoring and training in clinical ultrasound of medical students, postgraduate doctors and consultants. He is Hepatology Educational Co-Lead for Global Ultrasound Institute (GUSI).
