Dr. Akiyama is an Associate Professor of Medicine and Clinician-Investigator at Albert Einstein College of Medicine and Montefiore Medical Center. In addition to providing care and treatment to people living with HIV, HCV, and substance use disorders, Dr. Akiyama conducts research focusing on models of care for HCV, HIV, and other infectious diseases in resource limited settings, with a particular focus on the criminal legal system. Dr. Akiyama has authored over 100 publications, including in high-impact journals such as New England Journal of Medicine, JAMA, and Lancet Infectious Diseases, and has served on several guidance panels including the New York State Governor's Hepatitis C Elimination Taskforce. Before joining the faculty at Einstein/Montefiore, Dr. Akiyama completed his Infectious Diseases Fellowship at New York University/Bellevue Hospital Center. He also holds a Master of Science in Medical Anthropology from University College London in London, England.
