I studied Medicine at the Catholic University of Louvain in Belgium. A fter graduating in 1982, I completed an Internal Medicine Residency in New York City. Thereafter, I entered the Gastroenterology and Hepatology Fellowship at the University of Southern California (USC), graduating in 1989. My professional career started at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, followed by a return at USC from 1992-2001 and a Liver Transplant position at California Pacific Medical Center from 2002-2012. Since then, I have been in private practice with involvement in clinical research focusing on hepatitis B and liver steatosis. Currently, I am working on a project to prevent hepatitis B transmission in Tanzania.
