Leandro Sierra, MD,

Leandro Sierra, MD, is an internal medicine resident at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation. He is one of three residents chosen for the program's Clinician Educator Track, and he received the AASLD Emerging Liver Scholar award. He plans a career in transplant hepatology, with a focus on cholestatic liver disease .Leandro earned his medical degree at Universidad del Norte in Colombia. He then completed a postdoctoral clinical research fellowship at the Liver Research Center at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (Harvard Medical School) under Dr. Alan Bonder. There he worked on PBC registry studies, hepatocellular carcinoma outcomes, liver transplantation and health disparities. He also held a teaching appointment in the Anatomy curriculum at Harvard Medical School and completed Harvard's Principles and Practice of Clinical Research course.His research uses large registries, including OPTN/UNOS and SRTR, and institutional cohorts to study bone disease in PBC, autoimmune and cholestatic disease recurrence after transplant, hepatitis B in transplantation, and access to liver transplantation.Dr. Sierra contributes to the Hepatology Highlights section of ACG Evidence-Based GI, hosts its podcast, and manages social media for the AST Liver and Intestinal Community of Practice. He is bilingual in English and Spanish and is committed to improving liver care for Hispanic and Latino patients. Leandro is also the founder of the Latino Gastroenterological Association (latinosengi.com).
