Biography

Dr. Rachel Adams is the Physician Executive Director of the MedStar Palliative Care Service Line, which includes nine inpatient palliative care programs across hospitals in Washington, D.C. and Maryland. The service line also features PATCH, an outpatient telemedicine program, and a novel advance care planning initiative that helps ensure patients' wishes are thoughtfully gathered and documented in the medical record.

Dr. Adams also serves as an Assistant Professor of Medicine at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital (MGUH), where she works clinically. The MGUH Palliative care team collaborates closely with the transplant service to improve care for patients with advanced liver disease. Their work is integral to supporting patients throughout the transplant process at Georgetown, which performs more than 300 solid organ transplants annually, primarily involving abdominal organs such as the liver, kidneys, pancreas, and bowel.
