Meet AASLD in D.C.

Your Guide to Securing Housing & Visiting Washington, D.C.

The Venue

Located in the heart of downtown D.C., the Walter E. Washington Convention Center—at 801 Allen Y. Lew Place NW and the venue for The Liver Meeting — is easily accessible and surrounded by a variety of hotels, restaurants, and attractions.

Traveling to D.C.

Washington, D.C., is served by three major airports, all of which offer convenient access to the Convention Center.

  • Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) – Only 5 miles or 8.05 kilometers away, this is the closest airport to the venue, offering quick access via taxi, rideshare, or Metro (Yellow/Green Line).
  • Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) – Approximately 27 miles or 43.45 kilometers west of the city, Dulles provides extensive domestic and international service. Travel time to the Convention Center is around 45–60 minutes by car or about one hour via Metro and bus connections.
  • Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI) – About 32 miles or 51.5 kilometers northeast of D.C., transit time is about one hour by car or via train and Metro.

U.S. Residents: Please review the Real ID Act regarding boarding federally regulated commercial aircraft. Depending on your state of residence, you may need to provide a second form of identification at the airport.

Federal Government Shutdown

AASLD recognizes that a federal government shutdown can cause uncertainty and pose challenges for many, particularly those working in government agencies, research institutions, and patient care settings.

We share concern for all those impacted by the federal government shutdown and remain grateful for the vital work of our members and partners in advancing liver health.

The shutdown has minimal impact on AASLD and The Liver Meeting. All planning, programming, and operations are moving forward as scheduled.

Our TLM location in Washington, D.C., and onsite programming remain unaffected.

While the government shutdown could affect the Liver Health Evaluation event on Capitol Hill, our commitment to bringing liver health to the forefront of national policy remains unchanged. We will adapt as needed to continue this important advocacy effort.

Exhibitors Beware!

Companies may also solicit AASLD exhibitors with lists that allegedly contain AASLD attendee information. AASLD does not sell or transfer attendee information to third parties for any purpose. Any message making these claims is not affiliated with AASLD and does not contain information from AASLD about its attendees.

Be on the lookout for any suspicious emails and don’t let these third parties’ solicitors deceive you. Protect yourself from these fraudulent sites by:

  • Avoiding Google and other search engines
  • Gathering information directly from the official The Liver Meeting® site
  • Booking and confirming your registration/housing with AASLD
  • Ignoring and deleting phishing or spoofing emails

Type of Visas

International attendees must obtain a B1 Business Visitor Visa to attend a scientific, educational, professional, or business convention/conference. Find out if you need a B1 Business Visitor Visa and how to get one.

If you’re from a Visa Waiver Program country, you must request authorization through the Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA).

Visa Requirements & Timing

Visa requirements vary depending on the country from which you are applying. To help ensure your participation in The Liver Meeting® 2025, please review the visa requirements for travel to the United States as soon as possible. This includes required documents, the visa application process, the nearest U.S. Embassy or Consulate, estimated wait times, and application and processing fees.

Due to the potential of increased visa application reviews, global staffing shortages, and administrative delays, it is essential to apply for your visa well in advance—ideally at least six months before the event start date of November 7. We also recommend reviewing the interview wait times for the location where you will apply for a B-1 visa, if applicable.
