Pedro Ochoa-Allemant is a Clinical Fellow in Advanced/Transplant Hepatology at the University of Pennsylvania. Born and raised in Lima, Peru, Dr. Ochoa-Allemant earned his medical degree from the Universidad de San Martin de Porres. He completed a two-year postdoctoral research fellowship at Harvard Medical School, followed by an Internal Medicine residency at Yale School of Medicine, where he graduated with an Investigation Distinction. He then completed a Gastroenterology fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania as part of the NIH T32 Clinical Epidemiology track and earned a Master of Science in Clinical Epidemiology (MSCE).
Dr. Ochoa-Allemant's research is centered on steatotic liver disease (SLD), particularly metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) and metabolic dysfunction and alcohol-associated liver disease (MetALD). His work aims to advance personalized prevention in SLD by integrating rigorous epidemiologic methods with patient-centered interventions. Currently, he is focused on developing point-of-care tools and risk stratification strategies to improve early identification, timely referral, and tailored management of high-risk patients with MASLD and MetALD.
His work has been published in high-impact journals, including JAMA Internal Medicine, Journal of Hepatology, Hepatology, and Liver Transplantation. Additionally, he has been recognized with awards from leading organizations such as the American Association for the Study of Liver Disease (AASLD), the European Association for the Study of the Liver (EASL), and the American Gastroenterological Association (AGA).
