Seminar: Innate and Adaptive Immunity in iDILI
Date : Thursday, May 14, 11:00 am - 12:00 pm (EDT)
Presenter: Jack Uetrecht, MD, PhD
Although the general mechanism of idiosyncratic drug-induced liver injury (iDILI) has been controversial, abundant evidence shows that most iDILI is mediated by the adaptive immune system. While the histology of hepatocellular iDILI is virtually the same asviral hepatitis, the major cell responsible for hepatocyte cell death is cytotoxic CD8+ T. However, an innate immune response is required to initiate it.
Attendees of the discussion will:
- Learn about these mechanisms and how they can be studied.
- Examine how they can be used to develop biomarkers that predict iDILI risk.
