AASLD Announces New Co-Editors-in-Chief for HEPATOLOGY

ALEXANDRIA, Virginia — The American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases (AASLD) is pleased to announce the appointment of Naga Chalasani, MD, FAASLD, of Indiana University School of Medicine, and Laura E. Nagy, PhD, FAASLD, of Cleveland Clinic, as the next Co-Editors-in-Chief of HEPATOLOGY

HEPATOLOGY, the premier publication in the field of liver disease, publishes original, peer-reviewed research across the full spectrum of hepatology, including immunology, chronic and viral hepatitis, cirrhosis, genetic and metabolic liver diseases, liver cancer, alcohol-associated liver disease, and drug metabolism. Its Editorial Board selects the most impactful advances in basic, translational, and clinical science each month.

About the Incoming Editors 

Naga Chalasani, MD, FAASLD 

Dr. Chalasani serves as the David W. Crabb Professor of Medicine and Director of the Terance Kahn Liver Research Program at Indiana University School of Medicine. He has held multiple leadership positions within Indiana University Health and IU School of Medicine and has maintained continuous NIH funding since 1999. His research focuses on metabolic dysfunction–associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) and drug-induced liver injury (DILI). 

He is a founding principal investigator of the NIDDK-funded NASH Clinical Research Network and the Drug-Induced Liver Injury Network and serves as PI for the HIV NASH CRN. Dr. Chalasani is an elected member of Alpha Omega Alpha, the American Society for Clinical Investigation, the American Association of Physicians, and the National Academy of Medical Sciences (India). 

Laura E. Nagy, PhD, FAASLD

Dr. Nagy is Professor of Molecular Medicine and Staff in Inflammation and Immunity and Gastroenterology and Hepatology at the Cleveland Clinic, where she also directs the Liver Disease Research Center at the Lerner Research Institute. She holds adjunct faculty appointments at Case Western Reserve University and Cleveland State University.

Her research program focuses on signal transduction and innate immunity in MASLD and alcohol-associated liver diseases and has been continuously funded by the NIH and the Department of Defense. Dr. Nagy is a recipient of an NIH MERIT Award and is the principal investigator for the NIAAA-funded P50 Northern Ohio Alcohol Research Center. She previously served as Associate Editor for HEPATOLOGY and Alcoholism: Clinical and Experimental Research, and as Chair of the Board of Scientific Counselors and member of the Advisory Council for the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA). 

A Shared Vision for HEPATOLOGY 

The incoming Co-Editors-in-Chief emphasized their commitment to excellence:

Drs. Chalasani and Nagy will begin reviewing manuscript submissions in July 2026, ahead of their five-year term beginning in January 2027.
