What’s in a Name: World MASH Day
Today, we recognize both World MASH Day and Global Fatty Liver Day while embracing the updated liver disease nomenclature.
AASLD is proud to have helped shape the international consensus that led to the adoption of more accurate, patient-centered terminology. What was once known as Fatty Liver Disease is now part of the broader category of Steatotic Liver Disease (SLD), including metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD), and metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH).
The updated terminology supports more precise research, diagnosis, and communication in hepatology. Learn more about the nomenclature change here.
