Record 21.3 Impact Factor reinforces the journal’s global leadership in advancing liver research and clinical care.
ALEXANDRIA, Va. — October 15, 2026 — The American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases (AASLD) today announced that its flagship journal, HEPATOLOGY, has achieved a 2025 Impact Factor of 21.3, according to the latest Journal Citation Reports™. This milestone reflects the journal's growing influence as a leading source of groundbreaking research, scientific discovery, and clinical advances in liver disease.
The premier journal in the field, HEPATOLOGY continues to shape the field by publishing rigorous, high-impact research that advances scientific understanding, informs clinical practice, and supports improved patient outcomes worldwide. This Impact Factor is the highest in the journal’s history, underscoring the significance and reach of the research published in the journal and its continued leadership in liver science.
The achievement comes alongside milestones for AASLD's two other peer-reviewed journals. Hepatology Communications, AASLD's open access journal, also achieved its highest Impact Factor to date at 6.2, while Liver Transplantation, which publishes research on liver transplantation, liver surgery, and related clinical care, achieved an Impact Factor of 4.5.
“This record-breaking Impact Factor of 21.3 marks a defining moment for HEPATOLOGY and reinforces its position as a leading voice in liver research,” said Gregory J. Gores, MD, FAASLD, Editor-in-Chief of HEPATOLOGY. “Our editorial vision has always been to publish the most innovative, rigorous, and consequential research in hepatology. This achievement reflects that commitment and sets an exciting foundation for the next generation of scientific discovery.”
Beyond HEPATOLOGY’s landmark achievement, the record Impact Factors across AASLD’s publishing portfolio highlight the growing reach and influence of its scientific journals.
“These historic Impact Factors reflect the exceptional science being produced by the global hepatology community and the commitment of our authors, reviewers, and editorial teams to advancing the field,” said Saul J. Karpen, MD, PhD, FAASLD. “AASLD is proud to provide trusted platforms where important discoveries can reach the clinicians, scientists, and health professionals who will carry them forward and ultimately improve liver health around the world.”
Together, these achievements reflect AASLD's continued commitment to advancing scientific excellence and disseminating research that drives innovation, informs evidence-based care, and improves liver health worldwide.
