New Guidelines Advance Pediatric Liver Transplant Care

ALEXANDRIA, VA — The American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases (AASLD), in collaboration with the North American Society of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition (NASPGHAN) and the American Society of Transplantation (AST), is pleased to announce two new Practice Guidelines published in HEPATOLOGY and Liver Transplantation, AASLD’s premier scientific journals. 

The new guidelines reflect the latest scientific evidence and expert consensus to support equitable, high-quality care across the full liver transplant continuum. 

AASLD AST NASPGHAN Practice Guideline on Pediatric Liver Transplantation: Candidate Evaluation 

Liver transplantation remains a critical, lifesaving treatment for children with advanced liver disease and other serious liver conditions. This updated Practice Guideline provides a comprehensive, evidence-based framework for evaluating pediatric transplant candidates, helping clinicians navigate an increasingly complex field while optimizing outcomes for children and families.

AASLD AST NASPGHAN Practice Guideline on Pediatric Liver Transplantation: Post-Transplant Management 

This Practice Guideline provides evidence-based recommendations for the comprehensive care of pediatric liver transplant recipients, from the time of transplantation through the transition to adult care. Developed through a systematic review of the available evidence and expert consensus, the guideline offers practical guidance to support long-term health, optimize outcomes, and address the evolving needs of children and adolescents living with a liver transplant.
