Women’s Leadership Development Program
The AASLD Women’s Leadership Development Program offers a distinctive leadership experience aimed at supporting and advancing women in the field of hepatology. This program is dedicated to developing leadership skills, specifically addressing the unique challenges and opportunities that female practitioners encounter.

Program Overview
Every year, the program selects and pairs mentees with a senior faculty mentor from the AASLD. Throughout the year, mentees can connect with peers and experts through:
- Bimonthly one-on-one mentor meetings
- Bimonthly leadership webinars
- In-person meeting/reception at the TLM
These engagement activities are thoughtfully designed to promote professional growth and foster meaningful connections.
Who Should Apply?
Applicants must be:
- AASLD physician members within five (5) years of completing an ACGME-accredited fellowship in gastroenterology or transplant hepatology (North America-based)
- Advanced Practice Providers within 3–7 years of graduation and currently practicing in gastroenterology or hepatology
Eligibility Requirements
To be considered, applicants must:
- Be an active AASLD member
- Identify as a female hepatologist (MD/DO) or advanced practice provider
- Be based in North America
- Meet one of the following:
- Within 5 years of completing an ACGME-accredited fellowship (MD/DO)
- Within 3–7 years post-graduation from a PA or NP program and actively practicing in the field
Application Period & Requirements
The submission period for the Women’s Leadership Development Program opens at the end of May each year and closes in July. During this submission period, interested applicants must prepare and submit the following:
- Current Curriculum Vitae (CV)
- Letter of Recommendation
- Attendance Sign-Off Form (link provided below)
- Personal Statement (maximum 1,000 words), addressing:
- Your leadership potential and key strengths
- Barriers or challenges impacting your leadership advancement
- Your leadership goals and how this program will support your growth
Selection Process
Applications are thoroughly reviewed by the Women’s Committee. Selected candidates are notified in August and invited to attend The Liver Meeting during the same cycle year.
