AASLD and AASLD Foundation Announce Major News Shaping the Future of Hepatology at Digestive Disease Week® (DDW)

New $500,000 Stravitz Visionary Award and inaugural AASLD Impact Award strengthen support for discovery, innovation, and recognition across the hepatology community.

At DDW® 2026, AASLD and the AASLD Foundation announced two major new initiatives designed to advance the future of hepatology through strategic investment in scientific discovery and recognition of professional achievement.

Together, the $500,000 Stravitz Visionary Award and the inaugural AASLD Impact Award reflect a shared commitment to strengthening the full continuum of progress across the field, from bold research and innovation to the leaders shaping what comes next.

Introducing the Stravitz Visionary Award

The AASLD Foundation announced the launch of the Stravitz Visionary Award, a transformational $500,000 research award and the largest in AASLD history. It’s one of the most significant investments in hepatology research in the field.

Made possible through the extraordinary generosity of the Stravitz family, the award is designed to support early- to mid-career investigators pursuing bold, high-impact research with the potential to reshape understanding, prevention, treatment, and cures for liver disease.

The award reflects AASLD Foundation’s expanded commitment to accelerating innovation, strengthening the research pipeline, and empowering investigators at pivotal moments in their careers.

Introducing the Inaugural AASLD Impact Award

AASLD also announced the inaugural Impact Award, a new honor recognizing mid-career members who are making significant contributions to hepatology through scientific achievement, clinical innovation, education, mentorship, service, and leadership within the AASLD community.

The award was created to address an important gap in recognition between AASLD’s early-career development programs and Distinguished Awards honoring sustained career achievement.

Nominations for the inaugural award are open now through June 7, 2026.
