Overexpressed‐eIF3I interacted and activated oncogenic Akt1 is a theranostic target in human hepatocellular carcinoma

We demonstrate that eIF3I is overexpressed in various cancers along with activated Akt1 phosphorylation and kinase activity in an eIF3I dose‐dependent manner.

Cellular‐specific role of toll‐like receptor 4 in hepatic ischemia‐reperfusion injury in mice

Billiar, Allan Tsung – 4 March 2013 – Ischemia‐reperfusion (I/R) injury is a process whereby an initial hypoxic insult and subsequent return of blood flow leads to the propagation of innate immune responses and organ injury. The necessity of the pattern recognition receptor, Toll‐like receptor (TLR)4, for this innate immune response has been previously shown.

Persistent abnormal liver fibrosis after weaning off parenteral nutrition in pediatric intestinal failure

Pakarinen – 4 March 2013 – The aim of this study was to evaluate the long‐term effects of pediatric intestinal failure (IF) on liver histology. Altogether, 38 IF patients (median age: 7.2 years; range, 0.2‐27) underwent liver biopsy, gastroscopy, abdominal ultrasound, and laboratory tests. Sixteen patients were on parenteral nutrition (PN) after 74 PN months (range, 2.5‐204). Twenty‐two had weaned off PN 8.8 years (range, 0.3‐27) earlier, after 35 PN months (range, 0.7‐250).
