Extracellular Vesicles as a Novel Therapeutic Option in Liver Transplantation

Kristin Carlson, John Kink, Peiman Hematti, David P. Al‐Adra – 25 August 2020 – Longterm liver graft dysfunction and immunological rejection remain common adverse events, in part due to early acute rejection episodes initiated by ischemia/reperfusion injury (IRI) immediately following transplantation. Novel treatment methods are therefore required to ameliorate liver IRI and to promote longterm allograft acceptance.

LiverLearning®: 2020 Webinar: Dietary Recommendations for NAFLD Patients: What Do I Tell My Patients?

The purpose of this webinar is to provide the audience with the most current data regarding dietary intervention in NAFLD. The first talk "How Much Weight Should I Lose?" will focus on: he amount required for weight loss; changes in histology; and likelihood of success and exercise data. The second talk "Which Diet Should I Follow and Which Food I Should Eat or Avoid?" will include: types of diet; data on international diets; alcohol use; coffee; red meat; fructose; and others.

Deficiency of miR‐208a Exacerbates CCl4‐Induced Acute Liver Injury in Mice by Activating Cell Death Pathways

Shashi Bala, Charles D. Calenda, Donna Catalano, Mrigya Babuta, Karen Kodys, Imad A. Nasser, Barbara Vidal, Gyongyi Szabo – 19 August 2020 – Acute liver injury (ALI) is associated with multiple cellular events such as necrosis, apoptosis, oxidative stress and inflammation, which can lead to liver failure. In this study, we demonstrate a new role of microRNA (miR)‐208a in ALI. ALI was induced in wild‐type (WT) and miR‐208a knockout (KO) mice by CCl4 administration. Increased alanine aminotransferase and decreased hepatic miR‐208a levels were found in WT mice after acute CCl4 treatment.
