Shirin Elizabeth Khorsandi, Arthur William Raven Day, Miriam Cortes, Akash Deep, Anil Dhawan, Hector Vilca‐Melendez, Nigel Heaton – 27 December 2016 – The aim was to determine the factors associated with the use of delayed abdominal closure in pediatric liver transplantation (LT) and whether this affected outcome. From a prospectively maintained database, transplants performed in children (≤18 years) were identified (October 2010 to March 2015). Primary abdominal closure was defined as mass closure performed at time of transplant.

Theise, Hong You, Jidong Jia – 27 December 2016 – Liver fibrosis is the net result of dynamic changes between fibrogenesis and fibrolysis. Evidence has shown that antiviral therapy can reverse liver fibrosis or even early cirrhosis caused by hepatitis B virus.

Curry, Naoky Tsai, Nathorn Chaiyakunapruk, Yoori Lee, Jorg Petersen, Peter Buggisch – 27 December 2016 – Eight weeks duration of ledipasvir/sofosbuvir (LDV/SOF) can be considered in genotype 1 hepatitis C virus–infected patients who are treatment‐naive, do not have cirrhosis, and have a pretreatment viral load <6,000,000 IU/mL. The effectiveness of this regimen, however, has not been fully confirmed by real‐world experience.

Manuela Sabelli, Giuliana Montosi, Cinzia Garuti, Angela Caleffi, Stefania Oliveto, Stefano Biffo, Antonello Pietrangelo – 27 December 2016 – Ferroportin (FPN1) is the sole iron exporter in mammals, but its cell‐specific function and regulation are still elusive. This study examined FPN1 expression in human macrophages, the cells that are primarily responsible on a daily basis for plasma iron turnover and are central in the pathogenesis of ferroportin disease (FD), the disease attributed to lack‐of‐function FPN1 mutations.
