End‐ischemic machine perfusion reduces bile duct injury in donation after circulatory death rat donor livers independent of the machine perfusion temperature

Andrie C. Westerkamp, Paria Mahboub, Sophie L. Meyer, Maximilia Hottenrott, Petra J. Ottens, Janneke Wiersema‐Buist, Annette S. H. Gouw, Ton Lisman, Henri G. D. Leuvenink, Robert J. Porte – 19 June 2015 – A short period of oxygenated machine perfusion (MP) after static cold storage (SCS) may reduce biliary injury in donation after cardiac death (DCD) donor livers. However, the ideal perfusion temperature for protection of the bile ducts is unknown. In this study, the optimal perfusion temperature for protection of the bile ducts was assessed.

Circulating tumor cells are associated with poor overall survival in patients with cholangiocarcinoma

Ju Dong Yang, Michael B. Campion, Minetta C. Liu, Roongruedee Chaiteerakij, Nasra H. Giama, Hager Ahmed Mohammed, Xiaodan Zhang, Chunling Hu, Victoria L. Campion, Jin Jen, Sudhakar K. Venkatesh, Kevin C. Halling, Benjamin R. Kipp, Lewis R. Roberts – 19 June 2015 – Circulating tumor cells (CTCs) in blood are associated with poor survival of patients with breast, prostate, or colon cancer. We hypothesized that CTCs are associated with poor survival of patients with cholangiocarcinoma (CCA).

The empirical antibiotic treatment of nosocomial spontaneous bacterial peritonitis: Results of a randomized, controlled clinical trial

Salvatore Piano, Silvano Fasolato, Freddy Salinas, Antonietta Romano, Marta Tonon, Filippo Morando, Marta Cavallin, Elisabetta Gola, Antonietta Sticca, Arianna Loregian, Giorgio Palù, Giacomo Zanus, Marco Senzolo, Patrizia Burra, Umberto Cillo, Paolo Angeli – 18 June 2015 – Spontaneous bacterial peritonitis (SBP) is a common, life‐threatening complication of liver cirrhosis. Third‐generation cephalosporins have been considered the first‐line treatment of SBP.
