Jie Zhao, Maura O'Neil, Michael Schonfeld, Amberly Komatz, Steven A. Weinman, Irina Tikhanovich – 4 March 2020 – Alcohol is a well‐established risk factor for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), but the mechanisms by which alcohol promotes liver cancer are not well understood. Studies suggest that ethanol may enhance tumor progression by increasing hepatocyte proliferation and through alcohol‐induced liver inflammation. Protein arginine methyltransferase 1 (PRMT1) is the main enzyme responsible for cellular arginine methylation.

Singal, James L. Tatum – 3 March 2020 – In this work, we characterize the value of positron emission tomography (PET) with computed tomography (CT) in combination with cross‐sectional imaging for staging and prognostication of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients.
Omar A. Saldarriaga, Benjamin Freiberg, Santhoshi Krishnan, Arvind Rao, Jared Burks, Adam L. Booth, Bradley Dye, Netanya Utay, Monique Ferguson, Abdellah Akil, Minkyung Yi, Laura Beretta, Heather L. Stevenson – 3 March 2020 – Intrahepatic macrophages influence the composition of the microenvironment, host immune response to liver injury, and development of fibrosis. Compared with stellate cells, the role of macrophages in the development of fibrosis remains unclear. Multispectral imaging allows detection of multiple markers in situ in human formalin‐fixed, paraffin‐embedded tissue.

Michael A. Dunn, Shari S. Rogal, Andres Duarte‐Rojo, Jennifer C. Lai – 3 March 2020 – Robust physical activity after liver transplantation is an important determinant of longterm health, similar in its importance to the value of pretransplant activity for withstanding the immediate stress of transplantation. Although transplantation normally enables rapid recovery of liver synthetic and metabolic functions, the recovery of physical capacity and performance to normal levels is delayed and often incomplete.
Nadeem Anwar, Tiffany E. Kaiser, Khurram Bari, Michael Schoech, Tayyab S. Diwan, Madison C. Cuffy, Latifa Silski, Ralph C. Quillin, Kamran Safdar, Shimul A. Shah – 3 March 2020 – Because of underutilization of liver allografts, our center previously showed that hepatitis C virus (HCV) antibody–positive/nucleic acid test (NAT)–negative livers when transplanted into HCV nonviremic recipients were safe with a 10% risk of HCV transmission. Herein, we present our single‐center prospective experience of using HCV NAT+ liver allografts transplanted into HCV NAT– recipients.
J. Konadu Fokuo, Carmen L. Masson, August Anderson, Jesse Powell, Dylan Bush, Margaret Ricco, Barry Zevin, Claudia Ayala, Mandana Khalili – 3 March 2020 – Compared with the general population, homeless individuals are at higher risk of hepatitis C infection (HCV) and may face unique barriers in receipt of HCV care. This study sought the perspectives of key stakeholders toward establishing a universal HCV screening, testing, and treatment protocol for individuals accessing homeless shelters.
